The Anesthetic Management in a Patient withPorphyria
Abstract
Acute intermittent porphyria is of great concern to anesthesiologists, as fatal crises have been associated with induction of anesthesia by most intravenous irduction agent, particularly barbiturates. It is a congenital disease that has a variable phenotypic expression. The abnormal metabolic pathways and clinical symptomatology of patients with erythropoictic porphyria and acute intermittent porphyria have been well described. The anesthetic and analgesic management of a patient with acute intermittent porphyria is presented with a brief review of literatures.
